Close to the very centre of Bordeaux lies the city's Jardin Public, a vast area of landscaped parkland that is a popular haunt for visitors and tourists alike. The park's gardens were originally designed during the 18th-century. Destroyed in the French Revolution, they were eventually re-landscaped in the English style. Whether you choose to take a relaxing boat trip across the garden's lake, or while away some time at the children's playground, it's the perfect place to find a spot of peace and quiet without having to leave the city.

The cemetery's huge 19th-century monuments are a dramatic sight amongst the greenery.
